Maui is famous for its stunning beaches, laid-back luxury, and family-friendly adventures. Whether you’re seeking relaxation or excitement, Maui strikes the perfect balance. As the Hawaiian saying goes, “Maui nō ka ‘oi”—Maui is the best!

As a Maui-based mom and travel planner, I’ve distilled years of experience into this guide, featuring everything you need to book your trip: family-friendly hotels, top activities, and trusted local businesses—all in one place.

Heads Up: I sometimes include affiliate links to places I love and trust. Booking through these links won’t cost you extra, and it helps me continue providing free resources to parents like you. Mahalo nui loa, I appreciate you very much!

This travel guide was designed as a best-of-the-best booking resource and pairs well with my free DIY Hawaii Planning Guide. For more on Maui’s geography, climate, and vibe, check out Maui With Kids: The Ultimate Guide.

Flights and transport

Flying to Maui

Kahului Airport (OGG) is Maui’s main airport, serving inter-island, domestic, and international flights.

Skyscanner has been my go-to travel search engine for years because it’s unbiased and offers the best prices to Hawaii with no hidden fees.

Tip: set up price alerts for specific dates/routes!

shuttles

If you don’t rent a car, a private or shared shuttle service can take you from the airport to your accommodation.

🌺 For a warm island welcome, reserve a flower lei greeting! Some companies even make candy leis for kids.

Renting a car

Maui is stunning, and there’s a lot to do and see! Unless you plan to spend most of your time at a resort, you’ll likely want to rent a car.

Discount Hawaii Car Rental is a dependable company that makes it easy to book with no prepayment, cancellation, or extra driver fees. I typically find the best deals through them because they offer discounted rates through all major car rental companies.

A great family beach day requires three things: safety, fun, and convenience. Check out our favorite kid-friendly beaches.

Best Maui Luaus with Kids

A luau is a great way to experience Hawaiian culture, food, and storytelling.

South Side

Te Au Moana Luau

Kids 5 and Under are Free!

This is a gorgeous, well-presented luau is located at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort and comes with an ocean view.

Te Au Moana features an open bar, an imu ceremony (underground pig roast), and a 3-course meal with table service (no cold food due to long buffet lines).

West Side

Old Lahaina Luau

Kids 2 and Under are Free!

This well-loved luau on Maui is also known for being the most authentic.

It hosts great pre-show activities for the kids, a flower lei greeting, an open bar, a table or traditional seating option, and a five-course meal. The setup and location are both stunning!

Alternative

South Maui Gardens Hula Show

This is an excellent alternative if you’re on the fence about a luau!

This kid-friendly hula and fire dancing show is set in South Maui Garden’s beautiful food truck oasis.

With over 15 food trucks featuring some of Maui’s best cuisine, they make it easy for everyone in your family to eat whatever they want while enjoying the performance.

Best kid-friendly rESTAURANTS

Traveling with kids doesn’t mean you have to settle for chicken fingers and french fries! Maui is home to many incredible restaurants, and these menus have been created with the whole family in mind.

Tip: Reserve a table at the iconic Mama’s Fish House six months in advance! (Cue that babysitting service!)

Family Resources

Traveling with kids can be challenging, but these resources should make your vacation a breeze!

Maui Babysitting Services

If your hotel doesn’t offer a kid’s club, consider hiring a sitter like The Nanny Connection Maui and treating yourself to a date night or some well-deserved alone time.

Maui Baby Gear Rental

If you know that a high chair, hiking backpack, or Pack ‘N Play will make your life easier, consider renting one and having it delivered from Baby Quip Maui!

Maui Family Photography

Take my advice and capture your vacation memories (you’ll thank me when Christmas card season rolls around).

I know this photographer personally—she’s responsible for most of the photos on this site! Fen is incredibly talented and makes being in front of the camera easy, even with grumpy, jet-lagged kids in tow. My kids adore her!

Best Maui Playgrounds

Our favorite parks include: 4th Division Marine Memorial Park (locally known as Giggle Hill), Kalama Park, Kula Park, and Keopuolani Regional Park

Best Maui Spas

No vacation is ever complete without a little “me-time.” Take some time to relax at a spa!

Resort Spa

Kilolani Spa at the Grand Wailea

Since their 2024 remodel, this is my favorite resort spa in Hawaii. Everything feels very intentional, the setting is stunning, and the service is unmatched.

Allow ample time because treatments include time to soak and steam in the Hydrotherapy Garden (available as a stand-alone service).

Boutique Spa

Ho’omana Spa

This is where you go to experience an authentic Hawaiian healing experience in an authentic part of Maui.

Set in peaceful upcountry, this family-owned spa blends traditional Lomi Lomi massage with organic, locally sourced products.

Independent Massage Therapist

Paradiso Bodywork

If you’re in pain or searching for someone with a deep understanding of the human body, Katie Paradiso is your girl.

Katie is intelligent, strong, and knows how to address the root problem.

Her small studio is located in the town of Makawao, and a visit could be well-paired with a visit to Haleakala Summit or one of Upcountry Maui’s many kid-friendly farms.
